Double the Watery Fun - Catch the New Giant Northern Pike and Use it to Craft a New Weapon

Firstly, we are excited to introduce a new fishing system and easter egg melee weapon for Once Human! Players can now fish at any body of water in the game. If you're lucky enough to catch a "Giant Northern Pike," you can choose whether to cook it or to keep it as a pet in your fish tank. Players can also customize the aquatic plants and decorations that are displayed inside their fish tanks.

Alternatively, you can also try using your new Northern Pike as a melee weapon. (Better than a slap in the face with a wet kipper? I'll get my coat...)

If you don't yet have the materials to craft a fish tank, you're not hungry, and you generally prefer non-piscatory weapons, you can also freeze your new fishy friend by placing it in a refrigerator. And as it happens, a frozen Northern Pike packs an even greater punch at close range, with increased damage and a chance to inflict a slowdown effect on enemies.

However, this is only a temporary weapon boost. As soon as you step outside of specific areas, the Pike will start to thaw out again. Dead fish can't be placed in fish tanks, but can still be used as an ingredient in cooking. Or, if you're a fan of the man-posing-with-fish aesthetic, you can also mount the fish on a wooden board and hang it on your wall.

PS: We would like to thank players @TWG-Jnutt12#2089 @ItsAnge#0013 @Mad Doggo#0001 @DoW Overlord Reborn#1910 for their invaluable suggestions regarding the fishing system and easter egg weapon design. We greatly appreciate your input, and welcome all players to send us their creative gameplay ideas!

Journey Across Time and Space - Rift Space Transformation Mechanic

Rift Spaces are pockets of spatial chaos brought about by the power of Stardust, and connect this world to other spatial dimensions. After the Starfall, a number of large and highly mutated Deviations flooded into the human realm. Rosetta is able to secure smaller Deviations in underground bases, but giant, highly mutated Deviations can only be secured in Securement Silos, which are guarded around the clock by a squad of highly-trained Rosetta troops. The gates to these Securement Silos are locked, and players can only gain access to a Silo by obtaining the access card by killing and looting the elite Rosetta troops that are found in the open world. Once you've got the access card, call up your friends and challenge the Silo together to earn generous rewards. And watch out for reality-bending Rift Spaces that may be hidden within.

Rift Spaces function a lot like wormholes. They cause the player to shrink once they step inside. Inside a Rift Space, mice and even cockroaches suddenly become deadly threats, but on the other hand, players can also take advantage of their diminutive state to pass through narrow gaps and explore previously inaccessible locations.

Right now, we are still working to optimize and improve this Rift Space mechanic, as well as figuring out ways to flesh out the gameplay in interesting ways. However, we can say for sure that this system will only exist in specific raid modes, so players do not need to worry about Rift Spaces while exploring the open world. Rift Space research is a closely-guarded Rosetta secret, after all.

Introducing a New Deviant 'Seers'

We are excited to introduce a new Deviant species, the 'Seer' (subspecies 'mechahumanoid'). These gruesome humanoid Deviants stand at 5 to 6 feet tall, and have some kind of mechanical/electronic device sprouting out of their neck in place of a head. According to a recent Deviant behavioral report, it seems that the Seer's physical and behavioral characteristics are determined by the type of machinery that it has 'fused' with.

As mechahumanoids, Seers are formed when a humanoid Deviant parasitizes on a piece of surveillance or monitoring equipment. It seems that they are also able to alert other nearby Deviants to an intruder's presence, and function as patrol units within Deviant-invested areas. When a Seer spots a player, it will summon their fellows to surround and attack the player en masse.

But Seers are not invincible. An effective way to defeat a Seer is to find a way to break its head-mounted flashlight, without alerting the Seer to your presence. This will blind the Seer, rendering it much more vulnerable.

We are working on adding more creative new monster types into Once Human in the coming months, and ideas from within our community are especially welcome!
